Hello :) My name is Anna McEvoy and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Learning Management (Early Childhood) through CQUniversity, Noosa Hub. As part of my learning journey throughout the course, I am currently taking part in a course "Managing E-Learning". This course explores the technological competencies required within a 21st century connected society, and looks at how technology provides a platform for creativity and innovation. As I continue on my learning journey I will investigate new technologies whilst continuing to increase, improve and reflect on my new and prior knowledge throughout this blog. Although I admit to being terrified of this blogging experience, I look forward to sharing my learning journey with you!

RSS Reader

Setting up my own RSS using Google Reader was really quite easy for me as due to the fact that I have set up my own Google account and Blog account I have automatically set up my own Google Reader account. This clearly shows how much Blogs and RSS compliment each other.

I find RSS a handy tool as I am able to easily follow peoples’ blog posting that I have subscribed too.

I think that the only way RSS would be a handy tool to use in the classroom would be if blogging was used within the classroom. I believe that if the students in my class set up blogging accounts I would strongly encourage them to make a Google Reader account so they would be able to effectively follow each others blogs and postings.

Google Reader is an effective ICT tool, however, I would not use this in my classroom because I am studying to specialise in early childhood. This tool would be much to confusing for these young children to operate and understand and I think there are other ICT tools that would work better within an early childhood setting. However, if one day I am placed in a grade 5 + classroom I would definitely use this tool. I think that this tool would be suitable for older students and would operate effectively as a learning tool due to their better understanding of ICTs and the internet.
